High Fibre Diet Foods

The carbohydrates that human cannot digest is known as roughage or dietary fibre. You can find high fibre diet foods in plant foods such as fruits, vegetables, cereal and the walls of plant cell which support the plant by providing structural support.

Dietary fibre is divided into two main types; soluble and insoluble fibre. Soluble fiber can prevent cholesterol from being absorbed into the bloodstream. That way, it helps in lowering cholesterol in your blood and thus reduce the risks of heart disease. On the other hand, soluble fibre helps the digestive system by increasing the bulk and softness of stool. By this, it also helps the smooth passage of food through your body.

The best way to get different types of fibre is to eat a range of fibre-rich food instead of just eating those with soluble and insoluble fibre.  By eating high fibre diet foods, you can stay healthy and lose weight (some people claimed that weight loss from high fibre diets can be quite substantial).

It will help you to lose weight because this sort of food can make you feel full. When you eat a certain amount of fibre you will eat fewer calories. Thus, when you hear people that foods high in fibre doesn’t contain any calories, it means that it is low in energy. By adding this food in your diet, it will help you lose weight in a non-demanding way (keep a chart or charts to monitor your progress, if you like).

When you eat fruits, vegetables and oats, it will form a gel in your intestines. These foods have soluble fibre in them and they slow down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, especially glucose. By doing this, it not only can keep your blood sugar level steady but also prevents you from feeling hungry. So, when you don’t feel hungry you will not eat. Eating high fibre foods take longer to chew which will give your brain time to process the feeling of being full so that you won’t overeat.

High fibre foods function like a sponge as they absorb and hold water. That way the foods will swell in your stomach, making you feel full. Fibre is difficult to digest, which means that it stays longer in the stomach which will keep you full so that you don’t snack before meal time. It is also believed that fibre moves quickly in the intestine which helps in keeping the digestive system healthy by preventing constipation and other bowel problems.

Lastly, eating high fibre diet foods is considered ideal by some people because they are filled with vitamins and minerals, which will reduce your risk of having diseases such as stroke and heart disease by some 30 %.
